Well, what is there to say about "Lost in Translation"?

If you've seen the movie you'll know why I chose to make a video about it - and if you haven't watched the movie yet you should definitely give it a try. :o)

"Lost in Translation" is one of the very few movies that I remember watching more than once at the theater (instead of waiting for the DVD release).
The underlying sad truths and the uplifting note (yep, both there at the same time) lingered with me for quite a while, and even made me think about a couple of things (or lack thereof) in my own life.

"I just don't know what I'm supposed to be."
"You'll figure that out. The more you know who you are, and what you want, the less you let things upset you."

:o)

I had a hard time finding a song to go with all the scenes I wanted to include (way too many by the way, but I hope I still managed to combine my favorites without making an unstructured mess), but eventually settled for Electric President's "Insomnia".
Apart from the fitting title, it matches the mood of the movie very well, being both tragic as well as hopeful...

And speaking of hope, I hope you enjoy watching this. :o)

Music: Electric President - Insomnia

Cast:
Bill Murray (Broken Flowers, The Royal Tenenbaums)
Scarlett Johansson (The Prestige, Match Point)
Giovanni Ribisi (Cold Mountain, Saving Private Ryan)
Anna Faris (Brokeback Mountain, Scary Movie)

  • In every life there is a person...can be male or female, who you will never forget. And by never forget, I mean beyond your first love or crush. If only they knew how much they were missed. If only they knew how much we still wished we were friends.

Even now, so many years later...

I wish you were still my friend. :(

  • The music is very nice, but the editing, even at second or tenth look, is absolutely beautiful, and evokes many of the hauntingly subtle moods Sophia created in her amazing movie. Unspoken love may be the most beautiful, but also the one most regretted decades later. Just like the Boat Scene in My Best Friend's wedding, you will always miss the one opportunity to have your heart's desire by keeping silent about how you feel. Thanks for sharing your work. D. M.

  • Thank you for posting. I love this movie, too. The first time I watched it was when the movie was just released. And few month ago, I havd the chance to watch it from the TV, still touch me very much, for what is really eccential for life, and my personal expereince of being in the culture of East and West. Not many movie can address the issues so precisely, in a ease way....

  • life is so damn slow, and so fucking fast! I don't know if i'm waiting for something to happen, or just watching it go by. This video shows exactly what it feels like to be stuck in life. It's a video that I will never stop watching

  • Adoro este film. Es una maravillosa combinación de imágenes, sonidos y silencios.. Todo está en su lugar, en el momento oportuno y el tiempo justo. Para mí, una de las 50 películas que deberías ver antes de morir. Ryan

  • I just compared the two (Lost in Translation) videos. Dave Mathews/Moby and I have to say...even though the Dave video tugs at your heart more, the Moby video is no slacker and the video has superior camera shots.

I'd have to say, after comparing the two...I'd choose the Moby version by a red hair.
