Part 2 The rear trains stops until the front train clears the detector track. The dead 8 track section is not all dead but has a resistor to allow only 2 or so volts on to keep the E units from reversing. I have detector about 6 track sections from each end of the dead section and selector switches to allow operation in both directions. Charlie

How do 2 trains run on one loop? Loop is in sections. One length of track is made into a detector by isolating one of the outside rails with tape on the ties and insulated pins. This section becomes a switch when a train wheel is on these section and a relay is triggered that kills a 8 track or so section of track to delay.
