~~~~~~WATCH IN HIGH QUALITY~~~~~~
This is a video for Julian Schnabel's film "Before Night Falls" starring Academy Award Winning Spanish Actor Javier Bardem. I used scenes that showed the state of Cuba in the 1960´s, as well as Reinaldo Arenas´ life.
Near the end of the video is a poem by Reinaldo Arenas entitled, My Lover the Sea. It is not the entire poem so if you want to check out the beginning of it, you can go on this website...
The 2000 movie is based off of Cuban writer Reinaldo Arenas memoir by the same name. His book's back cover reads:
"The shocking memoir by visionary Cuban writer Reinaldo Arenas "is a book above all about being free," said The NY Times Review of Books - "sexually, politically, and artistically." In Before Night Falls, Arenas recounts his journey from a poverty-stricken childhood in rural Cuba to his death in New York four decades later. In between he tells of his odyssey from adolescent rebel fighting for the Revolution, through his suppression as a writer, his disillusionment with Castro, his imprisonment and torture, and his eventual flight from Cuba. Before Night Falls illuminates the importance of Arenas' life as a symbol of the individual against society and of the potential for art to liberate, and confirms the power of the outcast to see and record the truth."
The songs I used in this song are as follows:
Círculo En El Río · Gustavo Santaolalla
De Ushuaia A La Quiaca · Gustavo Santaolalla
AND
The Supine · Andrew Bird
  • This is absolutely stunning and breath-taking! Love the music! A true film set in Fidel's Cuba, told with heart and soul
  • @bchick1987 oh yes, in his independent years!!! what a film, what a performance. I am really sad, because I used to love him, now when I see he stars somewhere ( US film )I rather avoid the film.
  • Javier Bardem ( in his independent years) and Julian Schnabel, what a combination!
  • Definitely one of the most beautiful, thoughtful films ever made.
