Born Free is a movie based upon the book written by Joy Adamson about herself, her game warden husband, George Adamson, and Elsa, the orphaned cub lioness, they raised while living in Kenya.the Adamsons eventually faced when their time in Kenya came to an end, forcing them to decide whether to place Elsa in a zoo, which Joy opposed, they decided to teach elsa to hunt and fend for herself so that the domesticated lioness can survive in the wild and have a free life

a selfish act? what they did was a totaly non selfish act, they put their own feelings of protectiveness aside, and trained her to live as she should have done in the first place. that's the way of the world... lions are meant to be free. becuase of what these people did for her, she got to experience the life she was always meant to have instead of being miserable in some zoo. she had her own cubs and got fufil her purpose.

  • oh my gosh! i always cry when Joy says 'she was born free and she has the right to live free!' it is true of ALL creatures, every animal has the right to live free, no matter how big or small, intelligent or not! lion, cow, hen and mouse. these two actors both became vegetarians and animal rights activists after the making of this film moved them so much! they both saw the beauty and worth in EVERY creature. i hope films like this move others who watch it in the same way!

  • nice one

  • @FlyFreeSkyline - All respect buddy - but Elsa would have died unhappy. Their intelligence is remarkable. IMO, even if she acclimatised to the WILD for a day - and sadly died - she'd have died in her domain - not a restricted one - think on it.... :-)

  • Elsa's life was cut short, however, when she succumbed to Babesia felis, a form of babesiosis, a blood disease somewhat similar in character to malaria, which often infects members of the cat family...Elsa only lived from 1956-1961.

Looking back...who knows...BUT...living in a Zoo...while is not right either..Elsa would of lived longer...Having all the Vets and Medicine. OR should George not of been there to kill Elsa's mother and Father? Don't know.

  • @UFOSPACE1999 I know, I own all of the original books written by Joy Adamson, and have read them many times.

My point was, that at least Elsa lived in a loving environment and went on to conceive cubs. If the Adamsons had left the litter alone, Elsa (along with her sisters) would have died right away, instead she taught us all a very valuable lesson about animal behaviour-- her life was not in vain.

  • @mikamai Elsa died in real life....Cat Cancer....in the 60's. Soon after she was released back into the wild.

  • ooo this lioness is in compeition ...sayin stay away from my man bitch! haha

  • some of us are like Elsa...can't fit in
