Intro: In todays economic recession, many are forced to look for other options to make a living. The governments job creation program is one light at the end of a dark tunnel for many. For example for those who attend a Thai massage course. Our reporter has more. Having felt the impact of the economy slow down, Krischanok Chansin, a local tour operator on Kata Beach Phuket, started to look for other opportunities for a supplementary career to help her and family weather the difficult times. Krischanok decided to join the traditional Thai massage training course hoping to gain experience and carry out work to supplement the family income.
voice *** at present the tour business is quiet, so I decided to take the aromatherapy course as I see it is still in demand. I hope to earn or make it a supplementary career during the less busy period. We all have responsibilities and expenditure. The governments support lifts our morale at least.
Ajaan Pinit Soisuwan, trainer, said Voice *** some of the trainees are therapists but they need skills for aromatherapy. So they can enhance their skills. As for newcomers, they can start with the aromatherapy and next time we may give Thai massage courses.
During the 60 hour course for aromatherapy massage, Krischanok and her 20 classmates learn about different skills for massage and services. They begin from guidelines before giving massage when the therapists must practice concentration and exercise everyday. They learn about human bodies and organs, then massage, even the weight pressures, speed and release. They need to be patient and concentrate to gain knowledge and become a good and professional therapist.
This training course is arranged by the Phuket provincial Labor Office in cooperation with Phuket Traditional Thai Massage School under the governments Job Creation program called Ton Kla Ar-Cheep. It is one of the measures to support people who are unemployed or looking for work. After completing the training course they can work in spas or traditional massage amenities. The Minister of Public Health Mr. Witaya Kaewparadise stated that the business can earn the nation over 10 billion baht per year.
The training not only reduces the impact of unemployment amidst this economy, but it also enhances skills for spa therapists for those who are interested in the service industry. That is serving the countrys goal to be mobilized in world class health tourism as well.
