I disagree with you completely. I'm in no way a fan of slash, but there is a big difference between musicians and guitarists. David Gilmour's greatest work isn't overly technical, but each note has soul, and every instrument works together. Slash was trying to say that what matters is your ability to create sounds on the guitar that express the way you feel in a particular moment. However you do that is up to you.

And who cares if Slash has an image. Don't hate.

I should have expected as much from a guy who's had so much success over such a long period, but I honestly didn't think Slash would come off as funny, articulate, or straightforward as he did here.
