This song I first heard sung by Tommy Makem on one of the albums with The Clancy Brothers. It was sung more recently by Kirsty Mac Coll and obviously from the wording of the song, it should be sung by a woman. Consequently you will have to use your imagination to picture a young pregnant maiden is singing the early verses
