Maybe in a Detroit, but the Mercedes-Benz 3.0 CDI engine which replaces the I5 is a V6.

I've heard that the V engines sometimes have problems with valve slap- is this true?

V6 diesel? they're rare, it rev ups pretty fast for a diesel too

how many miles does that engine have on it?

So far the highest is $5600. I might consider a trade but it would have to be a a 4x4.

Without even a rough $ figure I couldn't see driving 200 or more miles to CT.

Well I have a few different offers but none so far are worth it. The truck is in excellent shape for its age. It's in Connecticut.

is that the origna motor init or has it been swapped or rebuilt?

All is original and it has not been rebuilt. The body only has surface rust there are NO rot holes and the gate closes to within 3/16". No big dents in the body it has seen very little weather being garaged from 1976 to 1999.
