@Flockton77 Well what are the rest of us supposed to do? Study the Scottish accent for five years before singing the song?? Or sing it in English? Or French? What??
-
@Flockton77 Of course the Jacobites were rebels! Read your history, please.

The Scottish and Irish were rebelling form England. At that time amost all of Ireland was government property of the Kingdom of England. The crowns of England and Scotland were also united in one person. Beside's it was the United Kingdom of England,Scotland, and Ireland.

I love this rendition, Vaughan Williams does such a wonderful arrangement and this recording is fantastic.... I can't stop listening to it!

A clear and pure performance.

The song is an old Scottish one, supposed to have been written by a Jacobite rebel awaiting execution. He addresses his wife who will return to Scotland by the ordinary high road,High road whilst he will return by the Low Road - the spirit road walked by the dead - and be home before her.

Well sung, but embarrassing to hear the English attempting Scots accents! BTW, the Jacobites were not `rebels`!
