Meet The Aperture Science Portable Intra-dimensional Gate Generator

This is what I've been up to lately. I made this movable device entirely in hammer that will generate a portal when dropped. It's glitchy, but not nearly as much as when I first started working on it.

It's made up of:
An invisible func_physbox
1 visible prop_dynamic
1 visible func_brush to fill the gap in the clock model
6 logic_relays to control the device
2 env_beams that cause damage
2 info_targets to aim the beams at
2 invisible prop_dynamics that record laser damage and shut down the portal if the beam is blocked
2 trigger_multiples that shut down everything if you or an object gets in the way of the top or back of the portal
1 func_portal_detector to shut it down if the orange portal is placed underneath the device
1 trigger_multiple to shut the portal down if whatever the device is resting on is taken out from under it
1 prop_portal as a template
1 point_template for the portal
1 env_entity_maker to make the portal and activate it at the device's current position.
1 info_particle system for the glowing emitted behind the portal (custom)

Source particle editor is credit to team! Launch an Orange Box game with -tools and see for yourself!

  • Wow, the idea is so innovative. Yet, it seems easy to make. I don't think I'll need a prefab for this, but I will give you credit for the testing element if I use it. That is to say, I will only use it with your permission. So, do I have your permission?

  • @DrexelDragonO91 Feel free to make one, but keep in mind that this is actually a lot harder than it looks. having it tell if it's placed correctly doesn't work, and going through/behind it is really glitchy. The second problem is fixed in my portal 2 version, but I still don't have any way to truly tell if the device is squarely on the ground and right-side-up my best option ended up being to only allow placement on func_brushes. So good luck, and I'll get a vid of my P2 version out soon.

  • This is amazing. Prefab?

  • @GuitarFREAK9700 Maybe, but probably for Portal 2 instead of Portal 1. There is an entity for P2 called linked_portal_doors that is more adjustable. I'm still experimenting with it, so I might use either that or the regular portal system.

  • is this call portal snadbox or what or is this gmod

  • @TheGLaDOSvideoCore it would be the equivalent of dividing by 0

  • @KingOfSandvich Isn't it just an entity with the model changed?

Like, it can be a carriable wall-type thing entity with it's model changed?

  • I get it, you could put it into places where you fling through but there are no portalable walls.

  • PortoCorsa

  • PUT THEM IN FRONT OF EACHOTHER!

  • I want one of those for my room...

  • test testa chambers!!!!

  • @Taras195 It would instantly create unlimited mass, making a black hole that could destroy the entire everything.

    So please don't do that.

  • @TheGLaDOSvideoCore the instance the portaportal moves in any way the portal on it will disapear rendering the lower portal blocked but other than your fatal error in computation; cool story bro, but then i took an arrow to the knee.
