THANK YOU so very much!!! I checked out crochet spot & was AMAZED by all the info & the goodies there. How did I get along without it? You were very kind to be so helpful!

@kathyboly19 I know it is hard to read patterns I was there once too, But don't dispare! I found on crochet spot dot com how to read patterns and it was easy to understand

I think that this is one of those times when a PICTURE (or video tutorial) is worth a THOUSAND words. I'm new to this crochet business & still have trouble with patterns for these very reasons & so I just make simple things (hats, scarves, coasters & a basket) with the basic stitches. I sure wish patterns were easier to grasp for beginners such as myself. I mean really, how many scarves, hats, coasters & baskets can I make before I go crazy & wish I knew how to do something else????

Did she mean that the ** (double asterick) was to be ignored, has no purpose, or indicates the ending of a set of repeats whose beginning is marked by a single asterick? I've seen a double asterick on a pattern (with no explanation) and didn't know what it meant. I was hoping this video would clear that up but it hasn't.That part wasn't exactly clear. But otherwise, an okay video.

I understood all of it until she got to the double asterisk, then she lost me! She really didn't explain that part very well! MERRY CHRISTMAS and a HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!!
Example: Ch 3 (counts as hdc, ch 1), *[hdc in next ch-1 space, ch 1] twice**, (hdc, ch 1, hdc) all in the next ch-1 space, ch 1; repeat from * to last st, end at **; hdc in top of ch-3;turn.
On this line of instruction you repeat *[ hdc in next ch-1 space, ch1] twice, then move on to (hdc, ch1, hdc) all in the next ch-1 space, ch 1; repeat from & across all of the stitches, ending at the **.
Hope this helps!

The double asterick is generally used at the end of a set of repeats that was marked at the beginning with a single asterick. It is ignored until the instructions say ... repeat from * across, ending last repeat at **. You continue to repeat everything listed and end your pattern repeat at the **.
