Canberra Bushfires 18/1/2003

A video I made of the devastating fires in Canberra, Australia's capital city. I was in Canberra during the fires and my father fought the fires as a firefighter with the ACT fire brigade, video is of the Duffy area, worst hit by the fires.

What was happening at the beginning of the movie there?

That was the fire approaching, it was coming over the Mt Stromlo area, burning the observatory and heading for the suburbs.

I was five when this happened and I lived near fadden pines. Luckily my house didn't get burnt down....but it was close to.

when this happened i was 5 i lived in gungahlin and my mum and dad were helping in the evacuation center then met many families that had lost family member but they luckily found most of them. One of the people they met had lost all there belongings and lost there are also in the fire. I stayed at my friends place with my 2 year old brother and we had packed our car with everything important to. My Auntie and Uncle lost their house as the lived in Duffy but they had all they needed to live.

My house wasn't affected by the fires, but i remember how scared i was, the sky was orange and we had the radio on all day and we were getting our house ready for the worst

i was 8, i live like 3 hours away from canberra and the smoke was so thick in the sky
