After looking at the GPS, I am really not to worried about the crafts performance, and will be bringing you data on this shortly. The real problem is the ice surface.

Have a look at this video, which hopefully explains it a little better.

  • I've just read on the BBC site that you broke the record and reached 126.1mph (202.9km/h). Well done to all involved...Rule Britannia...Britannia rules the waves....

  • it is not metal, its laminate. just wheels/skates and wing brackets are metal

  • To make perfect ice, you need a lake with an inflow stream, that has a dam. You dam up some water, and release it over the frozen lake during a calm night. The Germans did it for their ice boat regattas.

  • Great boats, great lake, great wind, whats not to like.

Check out my ice boating videos at 59helmet59.

    Cheers, GSW

  • I don't understand why you aren't using side stays. I'd have two sets of three, at the joints. Your top section is falling off, It should be swooping back windward like a birds wing to catch the wind. Good luck. I hope you set the record for fastest sail/ wind powered vehicle. Get Guenness out there to verify record and film those hosers freezing their bums off.

  • Pretty sweet little ride there, but there's apparently one common issue among all wind powered devices...

    Wfffffffffffffffffffffffe caffffffffffffffffffffffn't fffffffffffheffffffffffffffffffar yofffffffffffffffffffffffu! :(

Tough break about the bearing... better luck with the next one?

  • Ice is such a finicky surface, good luck with your endeavor.

  • Isn't it dangerous? I mean, even sailing on a Snipe can be dangerous, but this... i can't say boat, Greenbird can sail abou 100 mph, and if something goes wrong, there is something for your safety?

  • So has any progress been made? Do you have any footage of it getting some serious speed?

  • Looks fast, cool, and dangerous. I think I'll stay home and watch from the computer.

These are two different vehicles correct? Is the ice boat the designed to go in both directions and the land boat designed for one way only?

The land vehicle looks like you're exposed to lots of blowing fine dust and the ice looks like it would be cold all the time, both windy and brutal conditions. You have to be a tough person to handle wind like that.

  • congratulations from NZ .

  • She's one bad a_ _ greenbird! I've had five iceboats.
