This is my favorite song written by the great songwriter Jack Hardy - 1947-2011. Not that i fully know his truly extensive & exhaustive catalogue! i first heard him play this in New York City about a year ago & immediately took to learning it.
you can see the exact performance that blew me away here:

(as a matter of fact you can hear me mumbling about Jack's beautiful Gibson about :20 in)

Lyrics:
& margaret wore white shoes
when we first met
they're not so white now
since she got them wet.
& all the noisy people
with too much to say...
shining up their shoes,
waiting for a rainy day.
'i'm in love' is hard to say.
come again some other day -
& will you say 'i'm in love.'
the last rose of summer
is still a rose
bent by the weight of
the late autumn snows
margaret took the time to
take it to her room
counted off the days
waiting for that rose to bloom.
'i'm in love' is hard to say.
come again some other day -
& will you say 'i'm in love.'
so many road signs
point in both ways
some follow both roads
in their younger days
'till all they're afraid of
is coming true!
frozen indecision
& wond'ring what to do...
'i'm in love' is hard to say.
come again some other day -
& will you say 'i'm in love.'
then maggie sang a funny song
about a girl who spilled her wine
the next she held to tightly
turned to vinegar in time
& the little children
laughed at ev'ry word -
they did not hear the sadness
in all the words they heard...
'i'm in love' is hard to say.
come again some other day -
& will you say 'i'm in love.'
@BorisGaquere hit the nail on the head...basically i am not good enough at playing the guitar to do this one in C#. for that matter, nor did i ever see Jack play it properly in Bb... he just capo-ed it on 3...
