The Montparnasse or South cemetery, created in 1824, it is the third largest cemetery in Paris after Père Lachaise and Montmartre, and although not as picturesque as the aforementioned, it has a number of prestigious tombs:
Théodore de Banville,Frédéric Bartholdi,Charles Baudelaire, Simone de Beauvoir, Samuel Beckett,
,Robert Desnos, Alfred Dreyfus, Serge Gainsbourg, Pierre Larousse, Pierre Louÿs, Guy de Maupassant ,Jean-Paul Sartre and Simone de Beauvoir, Tristan Tzara, César Vallejo etc. are buried in the cemetry of Montparnasse.
