These very large termites are probably Macrotermes carbonarius. I have never seen a queen of this species which is quite common in Singapore, so a friend and I attempted to dig the nest open. We didn't find the queen, but found many strange structures, supposedly the "fungus gardens", scattered throughout the nest.
