In this video interview social media expert Lee Odden discusses how B2B businesses can and do use social media effectively. Of course, people in B2B businesses are actually real people, chuckles Odden, who use Twitter and Facebook, read blogs and watch video.
Moreover, B2B marketers have traditionally marketed themselves through content. The outcome of a lot of social interactions, says Odden, is content, and much of that content will be distributed through social technologies. So in reality, social media is a good match for many B2B businesses.
Odden shares how Marketo.com, a B2B marketing automation company, uses social media. They created a lot of content empathetic to customer needs. Then used social media listening to pick up on additional customer needs and wrote content to respond to it.
PRWeb, used by many search marketers, organized and categorized content around customer sensitive keywords, is writing a blog, using Twitter, and has hired a full-time community manager to relate to customers via social media channels.
Lee Odden is the CEO of TopRankMarketing.com and writes a regular TopRankBlog.com. This interview was recorded at the Search Engine Strategies Conference in Chicago, in October 2010.
