What is Tennis Elbow?

"Tennis Elbow" is the common name describing the painful condition Lateral Epicondylitis (LE), speculatively caused by overuse of the forearm resulting in elbow pain. To no surprise, playing tennis and other racquet sports can be a culprit for its development. However, a variety of other activities or sports can also be the cause of this painful condition. Painters, plumbers, carpenters or others frequently and repetitively employing the use of forearm extensor muscles with gripping objects are prone to developing tennis elbow.

The condition is not entirely inflammatory in nature, but rather degenerative by way of micro-tearing between the common extensor tendon and periosteum of the lateral epicondyle of the humerus.

  • Ive been using this for about 3 days now and I gotta tell ya, im not seeing what it's benefit is supposed to be. I have tendonitis in both elbows

  • @ArizonaMMJ can you tell us more about your injury?

  • Most people don't have trouble applying the tape if they have small amounts of body hair. If you have a lot of hair it would be best to clip or shave for best results – and for less pain when tape is removed!

  • Can you post a video on proper taping procedure for medial epicondylitits - golfer's elbow?

  • Sorry for the delayed response but I wanted to let you know that we will be posting the instructions for taping 'golfers elbow' in the next 2 weeks. We're just waiting for the studio to complete final edits. Thx.

  • I have concerns...my physical therapist did this completely different, put the tape over my torn tendons and I very quickly have more pain. Can I assume she did it wrong?

  • @monkeyface1921 you probably put too much tension.. Ive had mine on for about an hour or so and its still sticky. but i put it on wrong and the very end of one of the Y sticks is peeling off so i got a bandaid and stuck it on there.

  • This stuff doesn't stick! I followed all of their instructions -- naired my arm to remove all hair, washed it, dryed it and applied rubbing alcohol. After a ten minute drive to the courts the ends were already peeling off, after about four forehands (not sweating at all) just a small portion of the anchor point was still adhering to my arm. I felt some support for my elbow, but it simply doesn't stick like they claim. When KTTape says 5 days, think 5 minutes... if you're lucky.

  • How does the tape effect the structure of the muscle/tendon origin when the tension of the muscle is maximized before the tape is applied? If the tape is attempting to recreate the structure of the muscle or tendon to create a new insertion point to allow the origin to "rest" and heal, how does that happen when, once the muscle is released, the tape has no tensile pressure on the muscle to allow it to heal? Is the second piece of tape attempting to shorten the pronator for some reason?

  • On the first strip of tape anatomically where does the medial half of the the tail go on the arm?

  • will i grow taller if i play tennis regularly ?

  • I see, thanks to the availability 'doctor, but Italy is not yet marketed the k tape? The original site I saw that you can 'buy in some countries, but Italy is not among them .... and then wanted to know if the hairs prevent the operation of the tape or just a matter of taking on the skin that is missing ..
