BENEFIT CONCERT TO RAISE MONEY FOR THE PEOPLE OF HAITI
On Saturday, March 27 at 7 pm the storytelling community of New
England, under the auspices of Massmouth and the League for the
Advancement of New England Storytelling (LANES) will present an
extravaganza of storytelling, dance, and music at the Arlington Street
Unitarian Universalist Church in Boston, corner of Arlington and
Boylston Street, at the Arlington T stop.
The suggested donation is $20 and all proceeds go to Partners in
Health and Eritaj, a Haitian foundation supporting local ties to
Haiti. Audience members choose which organization to donate to at the
door.

Eight local storytellers will perform Haitian stories for a night
intended to celebrate Haitian culture in all its glory. Haitian born
performer and artist Charlot Lucien heads up the bill and will perform
Haitian folktales and riddles accompanied by his two children, Malaika
and Sebastien. Lucien cousins Sarah, Samantha, Gaethan, Izzy, and
Sophy will join the other children to mime and sing with the stories.
These children have performed a similar mixture of story , mime ,and
song for the Cambridge based Revels.

Other Boston storytellers performing include Norah Dooley, Andrea
Lovett, Lani Peterson, Sharon Kennedy, Judith Black, Michael Anderson,
and Tony Toledo . In addition to high energy, tandem told folktales
involving clapping, chanting and direct responses from the audience,
storytellers will present a brief sketch of the life of Toussaint
L'Ouverture and his role in Haiti's history.

Haitian student Marie Murphy, currently studying at Tufts, will
perform her highly emotional color guard dance and routine with the
Haitian flag. Boston area Haitian poet, Eddy Toussaint, will offer his
poem, "The Port-au-Prince I Knew". Singers for the evening include
Haitian chanteuse Mirlande Butler as well as local musicians, Barbara
Cajuste, Yvon Lamour, Didi Jeremie, and Groupe Melanj. Jean Michel
Daudier, a Haitian singer from Florida, will be coming to Boston
especially to perform for this event..

At intermission food and drink will be available and audience members
can peruse tables of Haitian arts and crafts and storytellers' CDs.
