Something I have to get off my chest.

Here is Newt Gingrich's statement at Cornerstone church.

  • Gingrich's comment concerning a secular, atheist nation dominated by radical Islam is one of the top 10 dumbest things ever uttered by a politician.

  • @WildwoodClaire1

It really is absurd isn't it?

  • @eumenidis

Check out my videos on the Seven Mountains movement...and check out the links in the toolbar of that video. If that doesn't scare you into attending the Reason Rally I don't know what will.

  • @eumenidis That is my understanding as well. In Egypt the priest class had a huge amount of power and the King and the priests worked together and sometimes clashed. In the end, the priesthood won the major clashes.

However, the monotheist religions are tailor made for authoritarian regimes. Jesus and Mohammad play a similar role of being the person, the god like or prophetic person to focus that authoritarian leadership on. Both are useful religions for military purposes.

  • @MacNutz2 Well, from what anthropologists & other social scientists have been able to determine, in its beginning, religion was intertwined with all aspects of life, but monotheism seems to be uniquely suited to creating & supporting authoritarian, militaristic regimes. (Which from what I've read, pretty much describes Constantine.)

I agree completely about Dominionism; it scares the living FUCK out of me.

  • @eumenidis In deed, Christianity got its first big push when Constantine decided it was the perfect religion for his army. Christianity and Islam are both very fond of having political as well as religious authority. A common theme in most religions actually.

However, the variety of Christianity represented by the Christian right in America, dominionism, is very blatantly political and all it's goals are about gaining complete political power over America and its citizens.

  • @MacNutz2 It's true that charismatic/evangelical Christianity has become synonymous with today's political right, though as to that version of Christianity being more political than religious--not so sure about that, as Christianity seems to have always been entangled with politics, & authoritarian politics at that.

  • He is going for the Stupid Vote. (shudder)

  • @eumenidis Both charismatic(holy rollers) and evangelical Christianity have become synonymous with the political right. This version of Christianity is more political than religious

  • A whore don't need to make scene, there just have to keep give you what you went to feel good !!!

  • @MacNutz2 Yes, & it boggles my mind that people can ignore such a long & consistent pattern of egregious greed & corruption. On the other hand, I've also been struck by how widespread hypocrisy & specious reasoning is among today's right-wing.

  • Re: the map ---- I wonder if anyone has pointed out to the Republicans that the people (geographically speaking) who share their views on homosexuality are Africans, Arabs, and Soviets? Reason, doesn't work; let's appeal to their inner xenophobes :)
