Buckethead gets the rep for being fucking amazing because he is not just a "shredder". If you knew his big ass library of songs you would see the mastery of styles Buckethead can play. Same goes with Paul Gilbert and Guthrie Govan. The guys are masters of their trade and virtuosos.

@sniktawleahcim that might have something to do with the fact that Paul Gilbert is better than Buckethead. Idk, I know Buckethead is good and all, but he is the most overrated shredder in my opinion. A lot of people would say Malmsteen is, but I just think people act like Buckethead is so much better than he actually is, whereas the likes of Paul and the aformentioned Yngwie Malmsteen... they seem to PLAY the guitar more, whereas Buckethead just seems to make notes come out of it.
