Heard this organ player practicing in a church in Mayfair, London, while I was passing by. Mad music! Could it be Rick Wakeman or some other progressive rock keyboard player? Nah, I think it's just pure divine insanity! Enjoy!

  • The church is that of the Immaculate Conception, Farm Street, and the organ is originally by the Belgian builder Charles Anneessens, later rebuilt by the famous London firm Henry Willis (by then in the hands of the founder's grandson, Henry Willis III - the dynasty went to Henry V, but he went mad so Henry IV had to come out of retirement to manage the then-failing company, which is now out of the family, undergoing a revival from the ex-Rushworth and Dreaper workshops in Liverpool).

  • This wonderful piece of "divine insanity" was composed by C.V. Stanford. It's the ending of his Fantasia and Toccata in D minor (published by Stainer and Bell). I recognised it straight away, but it took ages to remember who wrote it!!

  • Beautiful church. Have you been to St. Giles Cripplegate, near the Barbican? That's where the organ is that Rick used to record Jane Seymour. If you ask the vicar, she'll let you have a look.
