My Dad worked as a rep for the United Auto Workers in Detroit. I grew up hearing his stories about the back-breaking work of car assembly-the men climbing in and out of the cars doing all the installations, while being timed and told to work faster. Any time a man got fired, Dad took it personally. As a child, I became afraid of the words "got fired". He fought for all his guys, black and white, and even the most hard core anti-union came to respect him. Dad loved Norma Rae. Thanks for post.
