  • Sure they can. If I stand there explaining the technique like I am in this video. In reality, it will happen fast if you notice, I'm already moving by the time he's reaching for my wrist. Again, if I stand there waiting to do my cool little technique, yes I'll be punched in the face. But not if I move correctly. Heck, there's always a chance I'll get punched in the face. It's happened before and it's not the end of the world. You learn alot about yourself when you get hit in the head!

  • The person who is attacking can immediately punch you in the face after grabbing your wrist??

  • @Qalandar2345 to hell wif grabbing ur wrist, they just give u the puch O.O

  • @ronin752 : I know Aikido is very effective, my friend here in Phx is a black belt & was trained by the same Dan that trained the guy in this video doing the demo's. Aikido just takes a long time to master & in order to learn properly you must have training partner's. I have a back ground in JDK & currently Ninjitsu and although I have been at this for years I was leaning techniques that were effective immediately not something that takes forever to master.

  • @garyboazproductions

Reminds me of some of the karate versions of gojushiho. Very nicely done.

  • @1Blkkato

This is the same in jujitsu and in karate self defense. This is because motion from a grab is the easiest way to teach the techniques. After learning the grab, if you do the motion before the opponent grabs, when he extends his hand, it still works. An extended hand is the same motion as a push or a punch. This is just a beginning point, it gets more advanced

  • I've been in plenty of fights & I have never had a guy try to grab my wrist, shirt, pants, collar or anything else. I'm sure this stuff works in a proper setting but in every demo someone is always trying to grab something.

  • ii prefer water bending

  • I noticed many negative comments regarding this video. I agree that this version doesn't appear useful but I know Sayunage works. Typically techniques from grabs are used to learn the basic technique and then you can adapt the technique to work from various attacks. I use sayunage the most from a kaotsuke (punch to the face). the opening move is different but the sayunage is the same. You can also turn this into an elbow strike.

  • somehow i dont think this is gonna work just do muay thai or mma or something full contact if u wanna no self defence no bullshit ballet moves

  • Shangrila107,Sensei Boaz is doing things the way he might have been taught, instead of ripping him a new one,why not post helpful comments on what might make the technique more effective in your opinion so everyone can benefit.I constantly look to improve as well and I intend to make sure Aikido maintains its Martial aspects, why not help to spread the info if you've learned a better way rather than telling him he's wrong?

  • A good way to apply this is to use Uke Nagashi against a shove or haymaker and leave your elbow out in front of his throat,as he runs into it make sure you move into him at that moment so as to cause a bend in his spine then cut down hard on his neck and upper chest straight into the ground.Works awesome!
