As we were heading home I noticed a Mosquito, not on the windshield, on the ground! I just learned about them ...so we pulled over to talk with the guy. A week later we went back and I flew her...this is the video. ~Jeff

  • Something wasn't rigged properly on this machine from the sound of it. Mosquitos come with a throttle correlate and roll outboard should open throttle not close it. Nice job working with what you had.

  • @wartowne I wondered about that...the throttle made it tough mentally...thanks for your response!

  • Really cool to see how a R22 pilot first experiences the Mosquito. Was there a lot of rock-n-roll because the Mosquito is so much faster response??? And then ... no governor.

  • I think it was a matter of getting used to where the cyclic stick should naturally be positioned for the CG, in this ship more forward cyclic was required. Another thing was the head room, I had to lean my head down with the helmet on. I f I allowed my head to touch the top of the cabin the vibration buzzed right through my head. The throttle was rigged opposite most heli's. Rolling outbourd should throttle up, this ship was rigged opposite, made it tuff for me and I feel dangerous.

  • The response was about the same as the R22...actually seemed stable once I got used to it. BTW Larry I've watched your videos and must say entertaining. I do like your patience and the time you took to learn your ship. I'm curious how is your throttle rigged? What does the factory call for on the throttle rigging?

  • I wanted to feel it hover - first I had to get used to the throttle and keep the rotor RPM's in the green. Now my next objective was to get light on the skids... slowly I pulled into a hover - this took some practice and several pick ups and set downs. After a few of these I sort of got the feel for it. - The nose kept wanting to pop up on pick up and set down. The throttle is the opposite of an R-22, there is no correlator or governor. 10 min was enough, for my first flight in the XEL heli.

  • Correlator ...sorry

  • how you learn to fly this helicopter?

is ther a 2 seater version for you and a instructor??

i'm airplane ifr pilot i saw this today and is great!!

    greetings

  • Like the video, not too sure about the Mosquto though, seems a lot of work to maintain them...is this true?

    How much do they cost?

  • Throttle twist grip - same direction as the R22 (and all helicopters?). They had to modify a motorcycle grip so it would turn the other way. You might be able to install it backwards with the cable exit forward.

  • congratulation man !!!!!!!!

your rudder looks pretty sensitive but you are doing ok ,just take one step at time
