This is my favorite scene from the excellent movie of Moore: Sicko. Michael Moore interviews an Doctor in UK where they have NHS (National Health Service) unlike in US.

"People have had to wait more queueing for iPhones and Harry Potter books."
Amen! You just made my day!
You people need to realize that every time you put down the concept of free, universal health care, you're ultimately serving the rich/powerful since they don't want to be taxed in order to fund such a thing. That MTV Cribs lifestyle of theirs is more important to them than someone's life.
@YonManc. I work within Manchester Royal Infirmary, and I appreciate that you had to wait so that private patients could be seen, but your case was dealt with well within the 4 hour turn-around time, and you didnt have to pay anything apart from bus or metrolink fare. If your case was urgent, it would be dealt with as a matter of priority.
2 hours is nothing. People have had to wait more queueing for iPhones and Harry Potter books.
Universal single payer=the only ethical and intelligent solution to America's current health care crisis. Those among the rank and file who are against it are amoral, spiteful dupes.
GreenVoter's right. People have to wait for care at times in the for-profit system. I had to wait a couple hours when I had bronchial spasms a couple of years ago when they determined that my life wasn't endangered. People who have insurance for be as for Universal Single Payer as the uninsured are. Think about it. No co-pays, contributions, or deductibles. it would all be FREE. There's nothing immoral about that. The opposite is immoral. It can be done.
Capitalism kills. Plain and simple. We need Univeral Single Payer, NOW! Only the richest 1% benefit from for-profit medicine. The current system is Satanic and could have come from Anton LaVey.
I wouldn't say Moore "failed" to mention it. Telling Americans about something privatized is about as redundant as giving Goliath steroids ... It's important thing to show Americans the existence of a doctor who's doing quite well while working for something like the N.H.S. I spent EIGHT hours in an emergency room in downtown Los Angeles waiting for a split lip to be stitched and when they asked for insurance, I had to SNEAK OUT. Free, universal health care NOW! Fuck some damn "public option"!
What Michael Moore fails to mention, that here in Britain, we have BOTH systems; private AND national. Most high earning doctors work for both. I was stuck in the waiting room of Manchester Royal Infirmary for 2 hours once because the doctor was dealing with his private patients other side of the city.
"Theres nothing new about this. Its very reminiscent of the British economists who, during the Irish potato famine in the mid-19th century, dictated that Ireland must export food to Britain, which it did right through the famine, and that it shouldn't be given food aid because that would violate the sacred principles of political economy." --Prof. Noam Chomsky
"Its estimated that about 11 million children die every year from easily curable diseases, most of which could be overcome by treatments that cost a couple of cents. But the economists tell us that to do this would be interference with the market system." --Prof. Noam Chomsky
According to the U.N., it would take $40 billion to fund basic education, health care and safe water for everyone in the world who lacks it. Bill Gates could pick up the tab and still be a billionaire 18 times over ... If the Forbes 400 richest Americans pitched in, they could pay for enough AIDS drugs to treat the sick in sub-Saharan Africa for two years -- and still have more than $100 billion left over.
