  • Some people get irritated by people saying, “I’m not religious, I’m spiritual.” I don’t have any certain concepts about the way the world might work, and I don’t think that anybody knows exactly how it works." Nicky Mehta of the Wailin' Jennys

  • Regarding the "religious" discussion, if you missed it, Nicky offered her reply to the questions. I'll repost them in this and the next comment:

"We’re all very spiritual people. Cara comes from a Christian background, but she’s not a really overt Christian, you know what I mean? She’s very laid back—she has faith, but she’s not the preachy kind at all. And Ruth and I—I don’t consider myself to come from any particular denomination , and I’m fascinated by all religions.

  • Is this a christian band?

  • Most definitely not.

  • @politicalsailor

what the hell do you know?

  • @jeffv2bfree

i "know", dude, because i am a close personal friend of the band.

  • Yeah, The Jenny's, crystaline vocals, great songwriting, soul, incredible talent. Way too good for American commercial radio I guess.

They started in Canada in 2002 two of the girls Nicky and Ruth are from Winnepeg Manitoba and initially Cara. Now her replacement Heather is from New York. Their popularity exploded here in 2006 winning many Canadian music awards although they had been touring since 2003/4. They are a treasure. I don't think they talk about their spirituality much but they certainly have a God given talent and are making great use of it. I just love folk and close harmony's the best music IMO

  • This year in December, I couldn't sleep for weeks, I got really down, I was really stressed from school and my mom picked me up from the train station one day, said, "be quiet for a second. listen to this song." When she played it, I identified with it so much it brought tears to my eyes. Thats the beauty of music, it provides an outlet for emotion.

  • @paulhbrown no massey is Nyc i think the other girls as well but dont pin me down on it

love em at prariehome companion when theyre there

  • I have a feeling the band is going to get more popular. A song they redid played on a popular television series called Army Wives. That is how I found out about the band. My thinking is I am not the only one thinking they sound great.

  • I think they're Canadian; I don't know whether that's a Christian cult or not.
