I grew up on these movies, the original show, and the stuff that came out afterward. The new movie compared to these had none of the majestic imagination to it or the heart. They did bastardize the franchise for the lowest common denominator.

There was a certain cinematic quality that these first six films had that the newest JJ Abrams one lacks. This original series really, truly was a human adventure. It was about stories that had action and adventure, and yet still firmly at the heart of it all, was the psychological questions about what it means to be human.
The new film is more about lens flares and mind numbing CG action shots that dumbs down the whole thing for general audiences that never "got" the original.
