In 1969, Barry Gray composed and recorded what is arguably the best music ever written for the opening credits of a TV series; Gerry Anderson's UFO. The series was as awesome as it was short (1 season). I thought it might be cool to see what Star Trek TOS's opening might look like using that music.

  • Hmm, best TV show opening theme?

I'd put in a vote for Lalo Schifrin's "Mission Impossible", or maybe "The Odd Couple" (not sure who wrote it)

  • That's why I said "arguably". There are several pieces of music that many could put before this, including the iconic theme to Hawaii Five-O.

BTW, I believe Neal Hefti composed the Odd Couple theme. Hefti is best known for the theme from Batman (1966).

  • This was GREAT,absolutely Murder Job i think. The Music from Barry Gray is much better than the Orig. I miss the Dates between the scenes like in the UFO intro. ;)

  • Dates between the scenes!! What a great idea. I wish I would have thought of that when I was putting this together.

  • That works pretty good. Well done!

UFO was a great series. Not really for kids what with aliens coming to earth to kill humans and then steal their body parts. Ed Straker was, as Alec Freeman once put it, "some guy".

The theme music was unuarguably in the top twenty of theme tunes :-D

  • This is Very Very Good ! But for me , the last 5 seconds is Beyond Superb ! The timing is Incredible !!!

    Many Many thanks !

  • Nice!

  • @TejMulen I would have to agree. Straker was a kind of a jerk. But that was the point. He had given up his marriage and his kid to run SHADO. And even when it came down to a "question of priorities", Straker still chose SHADO because of the greater good (the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few). The other choice to head up SHADO would've General Henderson. Yikes. I think I would probably go live with the aliens.

  • Hey I remember this video! This video just came up as a suggestion for me- I loved watching this video over and over when it came out five years ago. This is still one of the finest opening sequence mashups I have seen on YouTube. Excellent work!

  • UFO was great but Straker (the main character) was an absolute dickhead

  • the best sci fi series ever made.

  • LOL...very clever, nice job!

  • Brilliant! UFO music to Star Trek .....it WORKS! top marks.

I always thought the British sci-fi stuff was well ahead of its time but built on a tiny budget. The Outer limits & the Twilight zone were great U.S. shows. Personally, I think Star Trek was all about sex. Look at all the girls costumes. Cant stop looking, eh?

  • There's a great commercial for ST-TOS that featured clips edited & timed to the instumental ending of "I promise You" by the group, Chicago. That was So-oooh cool!

  • Nice job.
