@psufan38 I have seen several videos done with high speed cameras. It is impossible to make the ball "hop" or "jump" even when thrown underhand. The ball is too heavy for any human to put enough rotation on it to overcome gravity. The ball ball does "rise" as it goes from the pitcher's hand to the plate, but as you said, it is only because it is being thrown underhand.

Mapache11- this isn't baseball it's softball. It's not an illusion we throw underhand so you just get under the ball. In baseball yes it is an illusion. In softball it's really rises.
