We upgraded the coil to a 60ma 12kv NST, varnished the secondary, and added a larger spun toroid.

The thing now goes completely nuts and scares the whole neighborhood.

The large 'bang' at the end of the run we think is a primary coil strike, which seems to occur regardless of the strike rail.

Oooh scary...

P.S. Looks like I chopped off the first few seconds of video...

  • Little question: how do you discharge your capacitor?

  • @barttie217 : All the capacitors have 10M disharge resistors across them. I also have a grounded "wand" with a 10M resistor that I use on the primary after a run.

  • what if it hit you? lol.. i can see someone makeing this and standing like 4 feet away..

  • @shobley

well, the problem is that we made a plate cap by ourselves, but we don't know how to safely discharge it yet. it's 10kV, about 1nF... got any advice?

  • @funventer very true. i only watched the first bit when there were more, smaller sparks, but then i saw they got bigger. my bad :)

  • @teslaozone not always remember that part of the tesla coil is to create resonance with the ground and top load too much top load and less resonance too few top load and the same problem occurs

  • PLAZMA ARCS!!!!! this is what happens when you remove the glass off one of those weird "crystal ball" things.

  • Build an Arc-reactor from Iron Man
