C-handaw or C-handav (The Search)

A Documentary Film on Enforced & Involuntary Disappearances in Indian Administered Jammu & Kashmir.

The Film delves deep into the inhuman phenomenon & practice called Disappearances and discuses thread-bare its far-reaching consequences upon a family and on a society at large, and also discusses its various socio-political, medico-legal, religio-cultural dimensions.

The film, besides trying to understand the issue, the main actors involved in the crime and the mechanism used; also attempts to find out possible solutions and areas of concern rather collective responsibilities...

C'handaw, a documentary first of its kind, was indigenously produced under the banner of "Global Witness" by few Kashmiri students of Mass Media (below 30 years of age) in 2003 in extremely hostile environment. The documentary set a precedence for more documentaries which were produced by other proffesionals on similar issues of Human Rights/War crimes/Disappearances and General Socio-Political situation in Jammu and Kashmir...
