Rockpop, Westfahlenhalle, Dortmund, Germany, 19th December 1980
***
Sweet surrender on the quayside
You remember we used to run and ride
In the shadow of cargoe I take you one time
And we're counting all the numbers down to the waterline

Near misses on the dogleap stairways
French kisses in the darkened doorways
A foghorn blowingout wild and cold
A policeman shines a light upon my shoulder

Up comes a coaster fast and silent in the night
Over my shoulder all you can see are the pilot lights
No money on our jackets and our jeans are torn
Your hands are cold but your lips are warm

She can see him on the jetty where they used to go
She can feel him in the places where the sailors go
When she's walking by the river and the railway line
She can still hear him whisper
Let's go down to the waterline

  • alguien tiene esta cancion con subtitulos en español? o algun video ?

  • one of the guitar greats...the way he hangs a note brings tears to my eyes...one of the few!

  • @ragingbull888 Not quite the original line-up. Hal Lindes on Rhythm instead of David Knopfler.

  • Pick Wither's drumming is right up there with Mark's guitar

  • The vivid, amazing "pictures" Mark's lyrics paint are beyond compare. The only thing better - the unequaled mastery of the guitar that Knopfler displays. How very, very few musical artists in the rock genre have or ever will come close to the incredible display of talent and skill that is displayed here.

  • I like that you can really hear Illsley in this recording.

  • @doug4326 Its not rhythm and blues, its rock and roll

  • @kostyannovoselov good point..
