No, it's not easy...but if it was, you'd get a degree out of a cereal box. It's challenging, and it's rewarding. Find out what to expect in veterinary school.

@FISHINGFREAK97 There's no guarantee, but it's very rare for people to fail out or drop out. You need to do your part - study, learn, ask questions, etc. For people having any difficulty, there are many options for assistance (mentoring, etc.). For most people, getting in is the tough part - and once you're in, it's challenging but very interesting and stimulating. That makes it easier in many ways.

@FISHINGFREAK97 It's not easy - after all, there's a lot to learn and you're getting training that's equivalent to a physician. But it's possible and it's definitely worth pursuing if it's what you want to do. For more information, go to our site (avma[dot]org) and type "vet school admission 101" into the search box.

Gahhh they make it seem like impossible xD
yunie747 1 year ago
@yunie747 Nah, not impossible at all - it's no cakewalk, but it's possible and it's worth doing if it's what you really want to do.

No, vet school is very expensive, very long and tedious. It is also incredibly competitive. You graduate with debt usually around six figures - if you want to specialize expect more college courses. The average pay for a vet is around $60,000 a year which is nice, but this is candy coated. You also have to deal with ignorant people. I know two people who stopped because they could no longer take the hours, the people, or the cost.

There's no question it's not for everyone. Vet school is no more expensive than medical school, it's 4 years long (not including undergraduate work), and it IS competitive because there are many smart, qualified people who want to get in. The vast majority of vets will tell you it's worth every second.
