A loose cinch had nothing to do with it. The rider wasn't even mounted. The flag covered the horse's face and spooked the horse and it reared up. The rider simply slid off to the side and wasn't injured because he had not even been atop the horse.
The rider was trying to mount his horse, handed his flag to another rider. The flag covered the horse's face, which spooked the horse, and then flag pole seemed to jab him in the chest. The rider never managed to get mounted on the horse, thankfully, or else he probably would have been seriously injured. The rider wasn't even holding onto to reins to stay on at all. The horse was just worked up from the flag covering it's face. Their was no fault...just a spooked horse, which is understandable.
Watch carefully in full screen. The cinch was loose. The rider or the saddle one began to slide off, the rider sticks the flags in the horse's face and then commits the cardinal sin of holding and using the reins to stay on the horse. That poor horse did nothing wrong, none of it was his fault. The title should read: "Horse Gets His Mouth Ripped Out When Rider Loses Balance".
Palomino horse reared violently, threw off his rider because he was spooked by the flags when they poked him and covered up his face. Rider was able to get up and walk as seen in the video, so thankfully he's ok. (video is not mine) But what a bummer to have that happen during such an important and joyous event as the Rose Bowl Parade and with the Palomino Horse Association and Roy Rogers/RFD-TV Float
I am glad to hear that the rider is okay. How is the horse doing after the fall? Parades are scary places for horses that are not trained for these type of situations. Evan the most calm, mild mannered horse can be spooked by flags and such blocking their vision.
That was a lot of horses coming down the BLVD. suprised only one bucked.
