@Donna12345678910 My horse has recently been diagnosed with EMND. He is on 8000iu of Vitamin E a day and he is improving greatly. He has been on the Vit. E since febuary and after about 2 weeks his shivering had stopped. the only time he shiver now is if he misses a few days with out his Vit. E or if he is ridden to much because he is still out of shape, but he can do 10 minutes straight of canter before the shivers start. please e-mail me ghostly_encounter@hotmail.com for more info.
20-30 mins trotting a day really helps. Even if the horse looks lame or sore its good for them to work it out. start perhaps with a walk then up to a trot. Drafts should be limited in their canter work due to their size and it not being the best for their feet. (even for a horse with good feet) Also check to see if the horse has a deficiency in Selenium and Vitamin E. Mine does so he gets a supplement for it everyday. Good luck and if you have any questions feel free to ask!
A horse with EPSM should be on a high fat diet. My 2000lb belgian gets 4 cups a day with 2 oz of DMG 3000 along with 3 scoops bermuda/alf. pellets and 2 scoops rice bran. He was diagnosed with EPSM about 3 yrs ago. I have tried taking him off his regimine to see what would happen and i was displeased with the results so he was quickly reinstated. EPSM horses need the fat to survive, as they cannot process carbs into energy. The DMG really helps his muscles relax. Also 20-30 mins trotting a day
Hello, Thank you for the reply, I would like any information that would help to find out more about this EMND, I will goggle it also, Do you know the root cause and how to cure? I practice all natural with him and my homeopathy/accpunture vet hates that he is on the oil but if he is not he locks up and also he can't do more than a walk and he is very tired if he is off the oil. I do find exercise helps everything with him. I can not feed him grain he will go in to almost a coma state. Donna
