I live by the Grand Union canal and am shocked to see pictures of a narrow boat on open water. I didn't know it was possible! Bravo!

@Eyepix65 They are fairly stable for their width thanks to a large amount of ballast under the floor. You would need to get a narrowboat well over 60 degrees if the ballast was properly fixed in place. In fact they might be self righting with all the doors and hatches shut.

@Eyepix65 Like a canoe. I assume this boat has a very low centre of gravity to make it so stable in that chop. Thanks for the video, and info.
Cheers!

@mykaskin I took a family holiday for a week on a narrowboat in 1994. We were on the Kennet and Avon canal, the boat was from an outfit called Wessex Narrowboats. We travelled as far as Bath.It was a very nice way to see the English countryside, and from a different point of from that of a car or train. Very relaxed with some good pubs along the way. So I am familiar with how a narrowboat "feels" when it's under power in the calm waters of the canal. It just looks like it would be prone to tip.
Is that type of boat stable in rough waters?

@Eyepix65 As you can see it ploughs through very well. If the waves were much bigger and lasting a longer time it would be worth building a strong deckboard and cratch over the front.
