Great information

@Axelman852 Ah. Got ya. Sorry.

@HabeKeinMitleid My point was not against formal education nor education in general. My point was that research ranking says little about the quality of teaching. But thanks for replying.

@Axelman852 Benjamin Franklin had to leave school at the age of 10. He bettered society greatly.

@Axelman852 While this is true, the atmosphere and resources are the main reason you pay to go to university. If you're surrounded by students who love the formal education system and you want to do well there, it is easy to get motivated. The resources are excellent. That being said, it doesn't really matter what university you go to. If you want to better society, do it. Not getting in to a good school is not going to stop you.

Why do people assume that highly ranked universities are the best place for undergraduate study? The rankings are based on research. First and second year students need the guidance and attention of a good full time instructor, it makes no difference to them how good their teacher is at part time research. The best advice is to earn your bachelor's degree at a small school that's excellent at teaching, THEN continue to a highly ranked university (like UCL) that's excellent at research.

@turxxx was there a lot of sex?
UCL is absolutely incredible. It's in the heart of London, surrounded by pubs, night clubs, cinemas, bars, restaurants, museums, theatres, parks, art galleries, shopping venues, landmarks and just about everything else. It's a few blocks away from the British Museum, which itself is just amazing. Students from all over the world attend UCL, making it extremely diverse. I had the time of my life there, and left with a First-Class Master in Science (MSci) degree in Palaeobiology.
