In animal welfare news, Indian elephants are relocated to natural settings. The Central Zoo Authority of India has instructed that all pachyderms in zoos and circuses be moved to sanctuaries, national parks or other areas where there is sufficient space for them to wander freely. Approximately 140 elephants in 26 zoos and 16 circuses in the country will be sent to new homes. The government had earlier prohibited keeping elephants in private detainment. The ruling in favor of the elephants came after years of campaigning for their humane treatment by the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals India. Bravo, Central Zoo Authority, for your concern for our beautiful co-inhabitants. Many thanks also, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals India, for your dedicated work on behalf of our gentle friends. May all precious pachyderms be evermore blessed with an abundance of land to roam and plant-based food to enjoy on a sustainable Earth.
