Slideshow of amateur photographs taken in the 1920s in San Francisco's North Beach with an early box camera by former Chief of Police, Jesse Cook. From what my father and his friends and relatives told me, San Francisco and California in general were pretty close to Paradise back then. No sound track. I also added some other photographs taken much earlier by various photographers.

These photographs, along with a huge repository of other collections of historical California photographs and documents, can be found at the Online Archive of California (OAC). I've just begun exploring this extensive and highly recommended website. OAC link follows:
