I've added a Soundtraxx Tsunami TSU-1000 (Medium Steam version) to my Glacier Park Models (Proto:48) Southern Pacific 2-6-0.
I put a high-bass 1.77" dia speaker in the tender, mounted on a styrene baffle box sealed with bathtub caulk and ported through the holes that GPM provides for just this purpose.
Here's the result - the sound captured by the condenser mic on my point'n'shoot digital camera. It sounds pretty good in the movie, and even better in person. I'm very, very pleased.
What you'll hear:
- the air compressor hammering away
- a water stop (hatch open, water running, hatch slammed shut)
- the dynamo (generator) winding up
- the whistle
- the bell
- cylinder drains open as the locomotive starts up
- a sharp barking exhaust note as the locomotive gets up to speed
- the rods clanking as the locomotive drifts to a stop
