Military footage of a F-14 aborting there landing. They got waved off because their incoming approach was wrong. I served in the Navy...I saw this alot with not just the F-14's.
I believe that's why they go to full power at landing. I've never made a carrier landing, but that seemed to be a combination of one hell of alot of luck and no small amount of skill. Either way, I'll bet he had to change his flight suit after he finally got it down.
The visibility was very low (technically, he shouldn't have tried to land), and the pilot wasn't correcting his lineup properly as he came in. When he finally saw the ship, he was heading toward the aircraft parked on the back right hand side. Ideally, he's supposed to fly straight ahead, but he was also going to hit the tower; he made that wild-ass turn to get the hell out of there.
(Former carrier pilot, and I've had my share of "colorful" landings, too)

There was an alternate landing field. I wasn't criticizing the guy or the LSOs.

When you say "technically, he shouldn't have tried to land". What do you mean? He should have gone around again or ditched??

Those carrier based jet jockeys either have icewater in their veins or they're just nuts.

I'm surprised that thing is still airborne. It looks like it's going so slow.
