Well, at the time, the "Israel conflict" was about war with Israel's neighbors, with Egypt at the lead, threatening its very existence. War did sort that out. Israel reduced the military capacity of its neighbors, occupied territory to give it a "buffer" and, as their military might increased, treaties with Egypt and Jordan in the 70s and 80s gave us a new status quo. The Israeli-Palestinian problem of today was not the central issue in 1967.
