Dayak Challenge in the 21st Century - Cultural Displacement

For a special Tribes of Borneo programme, the 101 East team spent several weeks travelling across the island to film with different tribes and hear their stories.

We spent time with the Penan - one of the few truly nomadic rainforest tribes in the world. Still hunting with blowpipes and spears, they depend entirely on the forest.

They spoke to us about how the logging companies are taking all of that away from them.

We also filmed with members of the Iban tribe who were once feared warriors and headhunters.

They told us how the young are increasingly turning their backs on the Iban way of life, leaving the older members of the tribe as the last custodians of traditions that stretch back centuries.

They should totally become like back in the day and continue headhunting... That dude on that bulldoser thingy. He had a nice head >=) But on a more serious note. In Brazil there are a tribe of people like this, they DO have a contract though, no one can cut down their trees, and when people try, they kill them with clubs... They're crazy motha fuckas, and that scares everyone, so that keeps loggers away from them and scared. Maybe that's what these guys need to do, headhunters =)

I agree let us together to protect of land Borneo, (Malaysia or Indonesia) we need do something

lets not be racist.Let us united and be strong to protect our land ,culture and traditions.We are all sarawakians indigenous ppls.We would not want to be call australasian or other tribes. Segregation of clan n tribes will eventually make us weak and be suppress by the waiting vultures as we hve seeing now.we are the real loser
