One minute preview of the Cape Fear Corpsers' art show at River Twist Trading. The opening reception for the show will take place from 6-9pm on July 1st, 2011 at 497 Olde Waterford Way, Suite 105, Belville, NC 28451.

The work featured in this show consists of what is known as 'Exquisite Corpses' -- works of art created through a collaborative process where each artist only sees a fragment of the preceding artist's work and has to use that as the... starting point for their own contribution. This technique was pioneered by the Surrealists, based upon an old parlor game named 'Consequences', in which players write in turn on a sheet of paper, f...olding it to conceal the previous text, resulting in a unique collaborative narrative.

In the fall of 2009, Drew Craven posted a message on CraigsList to see how much interest there would be from the local art community in forming a group to work on the creation of exquisite corpses. Rachel Kastner was the only respondent, but she already knew a lot of other artists in the area, so she was able to rustle up some interest in forming a group.

The Cape Fear Corpsers first met at Acme studios in Wilmington in January 2010, and since then they've met almost every weekend to swap their incomplete corpses or unveil the finished ones as a group. Members have come and gone, but they've now solidified into a pretty consistent collective comprised of 5 members: Drew and Rachel, plus Benjamin Billingsley, Colleen Ringrose, and the mysterious Todzilla.

All of the pieces included in this show are collaborations between 3-4 members of the group. The periodic unveilings are always great fun, as no-one has any idea what the other members have done before or after them, and so the nature of a corpse can change dramatically from start to finish. The results are unique, surprising, surreal, and often hilarious.
