In the second meeting of the season between the two teams, the Mets had a hit parade, with nearly everyone in the lineup making good contact. But it was the Mets defense that prevented the visiting Red Sox from having a big first inning. The Sox fielders countered with a couple of defensive gems themselves, but were unable to record the third out of the inning on an infield pop-up and the Mets immediately capitalized. The number 5 hitter, Andrew Tyson, came to the plate with runners on 1st and 2nd and proceeded to launch the second pitch of the at-bat over the center field fence. Then, in the bottom of the 2nd inning, Stephen Sgarlato drove a ball to deep center for a 2-run inside the park homer and the Mets were on their way to winning their sixth game of the season.
