A former executive of one of China's largest pharmaceutical companies has been given a suspended death sentence for corruption. Wu Jianwen, former head of the Shanghai Pharmaceutical Group, earned millions through bribes and embezzling public funds. His company was shutdown in 2007 for making tainted leukemia drugs. He will have a two-year reprieve before his execution. Similar cases usually get reduced to life in prison.

  • This is why Chinese capitalism works...

  • It's a good thing such a punishment is not practiced here in the states. There would hardly be any executives left alive, especially in banking and stocks.

  • @simiyachaq well the fact that everyone outsources to China because of cheap labor is indicative. I don't expect there would be any government-supported statistics, for self-explanatory reasons, but if there are any independent statistics, I'd like to hear about them.

Off topic: If China wasn't exploitative of its poor people, I'd still boycott it (and I do) because of the human rights it denies its citizens (various religious groups for instance, including Catholics).

  • @someman7 Any credible statistics to support that claim other than repeating emotional but baseless statements from interest group think tanks appearing on the American media?

  • @simiyachaq China is the forerunner though. Ironic, since it wants to think of itself as a socialist country.

  • @someman7 That's not exclusive to China.

  • @simiyachaq No, it's because it's based on slaves.

  • They need to introduce this to the USA and UK
