I have been restoring/preserving some of my family's old 8mm home movies, and this is vintage footage of my father, mother and brother (filmed by my dad) visiting the Storyland amusement park on Federal Highway (US1) in Pompano Beach, Florida in 1956. The clip shows several of the park's nursery rhyme themed attractions including: Peter, Peter, Pumpkin Eater, The Old Woman That Lived in a Shoe, Jack and the Beanstalk and Jonah and the Whale. It also shows some of the featured kiddie rides, such as pony carts and motor-boats.
Storyland was a fairy tale themed amusement park located at 891 Federal Highway (US1) in Pompano Beach, Florida. Storyland opened in November, 1955 and featured nursery rhyme themed attractions, such as: Humpty Dumpty and Rub-A-Dub-Dub Three Men in a Tub. It also featured a miniature train ride, merry-go-round, ferris wheel, airplane ride, a monkey village, Seminole Indian village, little red schoolhouse, and a chapel with carillon.
Plagued by declining revenues in the early 1960's Storyland was dealt a second blow when it was heavily damaged during Hurricane Cleo in August of 1964. The park was finally closed and torn down later that year.
Great work preserving these, great memories
