GTA 1 Infinite Money Glitch

This description contains detailed info about what's going on.

This shows a glitch for getting the maximum amount of money very quickly.

First of all a few game mechanics:

* Shooting a cop car with pistol will make the cop get out and go after you. But, due to programmer oversight, the cop won't notice you shooting his car with flamethrower (like in this video).

* When shooting a wall with rocket launcher a fire will appear on its top for about a minute. (Bridge walls are an exception, on them this usually doesn't work. Instead, the shot is deleted and you can shoot right again without having to reload which is strange.)

* When a car has more than 99 damage it explodes, is marked to "wrecked" and set to 99 again.

* While a fire is singeing a car the car constantly takes damage. But due to programmers' oversight again also wrecks take damage, causing them to exceed 99 damage and explode again and again.

* When a cop car is wrecked with the policeman still inside it doesn't lose its "cop car" state. E.g. when it falls down a cliff you'll hear its siren during fall. Even funnier, if it falls into water the car "resurrects" and starts driving underwater, even being able to eventually continue driving on land and even the cop being able to exit the wrecked though resurrected cop car. For our purposes another side effect is abused: causing an already wrecked police car to wreck (and thus usually explode) again still gives the player money for destroying a police car.

This is what's happening here. First of all the cop car is wrecked, then pushed slightly over the cliff, then the cliff is shot from below with rocket launcher to cause a fire to singe the car, making it explode again and again (the short breaks are because the game cannot handle too many concurrent explosions at once so further explosions aren't shown but the car still wrecks and grants money), giving more and more money. Furthermore, since earning points with no more than (IIRC) one second after the previously earned money will multiply your actually earned money again and again this quickly reaches astronomical proportions, being limited only by the game's score limit of 999,999,999.
