They prosecuted some poor sucker in these United States(but i'm italian hihi)
For teaching that man descended from the apes
They coulda settled that case without a fuss or fight
If they'd seen me chasin' you, sugar, through the jungle last night
They'da called in that jury and a one two three said
Part man, part monkey, definitely

Well the church bell rings from the corner steeple
Man in a monkey suit swears he'll do no evil
Offers his lover's prayer but his soul lies
Dark and driftin' and unsatisfied
Well hey bartender, tell me whaddaya see
Part man, part monkey, looks like to me

Well the night is dark, the moon is full
The flowers of romance exert their pull
We talk awhile, my fingers slip
I'm hard and crackling like a whip

Well did God make man in a breath of holy fire
Or did he crawl on up out of the muck and mire
Well the man on the street believes what the bible tells him so
Well you can ask me, mister, because I know
Tell them soul-suckin' preachers to come on down and see
Part man, part monkey, baby that's me

  • Bruce is 100% a christian...he has stated on many occasions his belief in God and if you look at the lyrics in many of his songs you can see that very clearly. He was brought up a catholic and he uses a fair bit of catholic imagery in his songs. He doesn't care much for organised religion though any more, but his core blief is very much still there.

  • @jbirenz Yeah, a made for tv remake of the classic original.

  • 4:13

    what a fuckin surprise !!!!!!!

  • Every boyfriend I ever had was definetly part monkey.

Suck my ____ and geez my sheet don't stink.

One thng I don't understand is why all these "pure" Christians thing that god wants to hang out with them. Boring, plus there is nothing else but change; how's the weather where you are?

  • Jason Robards and Kirk Douglas? In Inherit the Wind? Was there a re-make of the movie?

  • @BigShotTony Try harder. Read the lyrics to each song, and please consider your difficulty in understanding both perspectives.

  • great mutha fuckin song. classic bruce on steroids. wonder if he'll get a lifetime ban from the r & r hall of shame? peace. don't trip on my freedom of speech? comments:)

  • Um, no. Bruce does believe in God and has stated so himself when asked. He may have been an atheist or agnostic at one point, but he gradually began accepting spirituality after his personal low point in the late 1980s' and had a resurgence of faith after his first son was born. Listen to "Living Proof." Many of Bruce's songs are inherently personal, so I doubt he uses religious imagery as a means of making his songs more commercial or acceptable to his audience.
